Sri Sathya Sai Gokul Dental
Fixed Partial Denture
Treatment :
Restoration of one or more missing teeth that cannot be readily removed by the patient or dentist; it is permanently attached to natural teeth or roots that furnish the primary support to the appliance. A bridge or a fixed partial denture — a device used to replace missing teeth — attaches artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth, called abutment teeth. Bridges are either permanently attached (fixed bridges), or they can be removable.

What is FPD dental?

A bridge is a type of FPD, that is used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to adjacent teeth, remaining roots or dental implants. When restoring an edentulous space with a bridge, it will crown the teeth adjacent to the space and bridge the gap with a pontic.

What is fixed partial denture sectioning?

Fixed partial dentures (FPDs) are “dental prostheses that are luted, screwed, or mechanically attached or otherwise securely retained to natural teeth, tooth roots, and/or dental implant abutments.” During the past decades, many types of FPDs or “bridges” have been used to replace missing teeth.

How does a partial bridge work?

Partial Dentures. A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is sometimes connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth.

Can you replace a dental bridge?

When it comes time to replace a dental bridge, you can replace it with anotherbridge, which will not last as long as the first, or you can replace the bridge withdental implants. It is common for bridges to fail. Cement holding the bridge canleak, causing decay of the underlying, supporting teeth.

How does a dentist make a bridge?

Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Abridge is made up of two crowns one on each tooth on either side of the gap — these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between.

What is the difference between a partial and a bridge?

A: Both bridges and partial dentures replace missing teeth. A bridge is permanently attached to abutment teeth or, in some cases, implants. A partialdenture is attached by clasps to the teeth and is easily removed by the patien

What is a fixed crown?

Overview. Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist or prosthodontist. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth.
